Bentley Reveals Flying Spur V8

Bentley has created a gasoline, V8 option for its new Flying Spur saloon.

The Flying Spur V8 has 541bhp and 568lb ft from its new twin turbo motor. The Flying Spur V8 has a top speed of 198mph and hits 62mph in just 4.1 seconds.

Bentley first revealed the new variant at Goodwood Speedweek.

Lucky test drivers are reporting a more agile and responsive drive than its sister models. The V8 model the Bentley dynamic-enhancing systems like adaptive air suspension and torque vectoring among others. Extras include electric anti-roll technology and all-wheel steering.

CO2 emissions on this model are down by 17%. Bentley has not yet confirmed any official figures but many expect emissions to be about 280kg/km. The V8 will get about 22mpg when the WLTP combined cycle mode is on.

It also has a feature in which it can go down to just four cylinders when driving under 3k rpm to help with fuel consumption. Bentley claims the change from 8 to 4 cylinders takes just 20 milliseconds and drivers and passengers won’t be aware of it.

Bentley’s New App Gives Users Virtual Tours and Drives

Bentley is rolling out a virtual experience app for its 3rd gen Flying Spur vehicle. Users will be able to experience the new vehicle before it is delivered to dealerships in early 2020.

The app is free for users to download through Google Play the Apple App Store. While it is intended primarily for potential buyers, Bentley suspects many fans of the brand will enjoy the virtual experience of the luxury car the app will provide.

Bentley fans will be able to explore the exterior and interior of both versions of the new Flying Spur. There is a luxury featured version with a gun metal exterior and the specially tailored interior. The performance-oriented model is also included in the app for virtual touring as well and users can view the new black accent.

Bentley had previously employed a similar app for its EXP 100 GT concept car which allowed fans to tour the car and place the car virtually onto different locations, even their own driveway. These features all remain in the new app for the Flying Spur but Bentley has added the option to take a virtual test drive, which will likely hold wider appeal.

For serious buyers Bentley has included contact options directly in the app for their dealerships and configurators.

Bentley’s New Luxury Concept is a Glimpse of the Future

Bentley Motors Ltd. is honoring its 100th anniversary with a new concept car—the EXP 100 GT. What might be a peak into the future of luxury cars, the EXP 100 concept has it all: electric motors, A.I., and the scent of moss and sandalwood. More than just a self-driving car with a fancy interior it offers special scents, wood from naturally fallen trees and the seats are created out of wine-making leftovers.

The EXP 100 GT concept gives us a look at luxury driving (whether its you or the car doing the driving) sometime around 2035.

In the era where A.I. chauffeurs will become the standard many brands including Mercedes-Benz and BMW AG have attempted to change what luxury means. Now Bentley Motors is doing the same.

The EXP 100 GT concept is almost 8 feet wide and its doors pivot out and up. The concept includes many emerging technologies like hand gesture control and seats with biometric sensors that will adjust just about anything you can think of based on the mood of the driver including interior lighting, sound levels and even the “fragrance” of the air.
Bentley has stepped it up with this exciting look into the future of luxury vehicles.

James Bond Cars: Casino Royale

Movie 19: Casino Royale (2006)
In this next film starring Daniel Craig as 007, Bond investigates the funding of terrorism. He kills a bomb-maker and takes his cell. He finds a text that is traced to Alex Dimitrios and Le Chiffre. Bond foils LeChiffre’s plan to destroy the Skyfleet airliner prototype. Le Chiffre finds himself in a poker game at the Casino Royale to try to recoup his loss but Bond is there to beat him aided by HM Treasury member Vesper Lynd.

Lynd and Bond are both kidnapped by Le Chiffre after the game. Lynd is ransomed and Bond is tortured. Le Chiffre is killed by a liaison between Le Chiffre and his clients. The winnings were never repaid to the Treasury so Bond establishes that Lynd was a double agent. As he goes after her he is attacked and the liaison takes the money. Bond eventually finds and captures White.

Now for the cars: once again we see the Aston Martin DB5, Aston Martin DBS V12, Bond damages a 1930 Bentley 4 1/2 Litre in a car chase with Le Chiffre driving a Citroen Traction Avant. Miami Police are seen driving a Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor and Bond also drives a Ford Mondeo 2.5 Litre ST. Le Chiffre and Mr. White are both seen driving their Jaguar XJ8s.

Joe asks Jody Victor®: The 600-Horsepower Club

If you thought 500 ponies crammed into an engine was boast-worthy wait until you see what these vehicles can do. I asked Jody Victor®  to tell us about these super-fast cars from an article by James Tate of MSN Autos/

Jody Victor®: Apparently it was not hard to come up with these 10 examples of cars with 600 or more horsepower. Here it is, an impressive list of 10, in two parts.

10. Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano, 612 horsepower – With Ferrari’s last hypercar, the Enzo, slowly fading from memory, the 599 GTB now holds the crown of top Ferrari. This front-engine grand-touring sports car boasts a 6-liter 612-horsepower V12 engine under its long hood. It also holds the crown for one of the world’s fastest zero-to-60-mph times, at just 3.2 seconds. For those with an even greater lust for performance, and even deeper pockets, the 599 GTO variant claims a whopping 661 horsepower and the title of Ferrari’s fastest production offering — even faster than the aforementioned Enzo.

9. Porsche 911 GT2 RS, 620 horsepower – Porsche reserves its “RS” designation for only the best of its breed. In the case of the already frightening GT2 variant of the 911, the RS trim borders on insanity. Although based on the previous 997 generation, rather than the all-new 991, the GT2 RS is the fastest production Porsche. With 620 horsepower coming from a twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter engine mounted in the trunk and powering only the rear wheels, calling the GT2 RS a handful to control should be an understatement. Still, for drivers versed in the art of 911 driving, the GT2 RS produces a thrill that few cars can match.

8. Bentley Continental Supersports, 621 horsepower – The first of two English cars on this list, the Bentley Continental Supersports differs from most of this pack because of its emphasis on luxury and comfort, rather than on outright, face-melting performance. This sumptuous Bentley packs six liters spread across 12 cylinders, although laid out in a W configuration instead of the more typical V. The turbocharged behemoth produces a dizzying 621 horsepower and launches the big coupe to 60 mph in less than four seconds — seriously fast for a 5,000-pound hunk of metal. Most examples of this $250,000 car end up in the hands of celebrities looking to flaunt some automotive bling.

7. Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG, 621 horsepower – While the Mercedes-Benz S65 isn’t the most powerful vehicle here, it is arguably one of the most astounding. The reason? It’s a 4-door luxury sedan capable of transporting five adults in comfort, technology and style. Like the Bentley, this big Benz gets its monumental power from a 6-liter 12-cylinder engine sporting a pair of turbochargers. As opposed to the Bentley’s unorthodox W-cylinder layout, the engine in the S65 is a traditional V12 good for 621 horsepower and a stupefying 738 lb-ft of torque. A sleeker 2-door cousin, the CL65 AMG, packs the same monstrous mill under the hood.

6. Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, 638 horsepower – The Corvette ZR1 is the most potent mass-produced American sports car and lays claim to one of the quickest times around Germany’s famed Nürburgring track. Its supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine churns out an easy 638 horsepower, making it the fastest production vehicle to wear a Chevrolet bow tie. Yet it remains surprisingly docile when driven gently. It continues to suffer against equally priced imports in terms of refinement, but the reverse can also be said of its performance — practically no other vehicle in the ZR1’s price range can touch its track-readiness. The Nissan GT-R is one of its few direct competitors.

Thanks, Jody! More 600 horsepower vehicles next time!
